TCSL 7th Game Vs. Texoma Club

03/03/2024

We have the right skill and momentum, we just have trouble scoring!!

Player of the match: Jack, effort and passing!

Goal Scorer(s): N/A

Funny of the game: I had my shorts on inside out the whole game! (;

1st Half

Most of the game was high paced and speedy. This team was about even with us, although working hard, I’d venture to say we’re better than them. The defense was moody, aweful, cruel, and nasty towards everything it seemed (and no, I’m not saying this only because we lost). They played the ball hard and fast; one kid on their defense did nothing but kick the ball and throw it! Their defensive line had no balance, that is why we had multiple chances and two shots on goal, unfortunately both unsuccessful. I played up, and got a shot on goal after a sweet pass by Jack. Landon and I played well on offense, passing and recieving. Coach Josh does a great job pushing us up, therefore leaving players offsides. He counted: we got them offsides 12 times!! Once though, the ref didn’t call it, and they scored. This was the result of a nice pass from the back side. Aside from this, we kept them offsides all the time. On corners they took, we did a good job clearing out the air-balls, and clearing the 18-yard box. The score as the halftime whistle blew was 0-1, we were behiond.

At half, coach Josh said, “We’re doing fairly well…one mistake: ya’ll should not be playing one touch passes from the air at this point. As you get older, you may learn to do it, but we should try to maintain posetion. We have been losing posetion every time ya’ll kick a one-touch pass, or it goes right back to where it was. Which doesn’t help us…does it?” He also have tips to all the positions, which was again very helpful. We still had the spirit to fight for the winning balls and win the game!

2nd Half

As coach Calum says, "You boys put in the effort, and play hard. But the number of goals you all score does not reflect your skill. You need to put the ball in the back of the net. Be dangerous near that goal! Get a shot off, even if it is not perfect." We needed this advice going into the next half. Our offense also didn't have the momentum it needed to get the ball up to score. We had few passing patterns that resulted in some inside-the-box shots, but they just didn't make it into the goal! We passed fairly well, and Landon, Mateo, and I did well keeping their defense back, but they scored three times in the minutes that we played soft on defense, making the final score:

Surf LOST: 0-4

We struggled this game. Maybe next time we can break through and make our shots. Thanks for reading!
