TCSL 5th Game Vs. Falls Town

03/02/2024

Struggling with a few bullies (who we won't mention) on the team, tearing us down, so this one was a troublesome game.

Player of the match: Kai, for encouraging everyone and playing well.

Goal Scorer(s): Sanjeev, assisted by Simon, Dylan

1st Half

Another team we played early in the Winter season, Falls Town has an aggressive attitude and a nasty offense. Approaching this team, we knew one player hosted much of the skill, being #9. His strong ability to pass and MOVE makes him a dangerous player in the attacking third. Coach Josh put Josh on him the entire game, although later in the game I was the replacement for this role. We shut him down mostly, and once he realized he couldn't penitrate the defense, he passed. This was what we wanted. The game was rough, though, because this team just outworked us. Early in the first half, I took a free kick on goal and passed to the right for an easy pop-in. We took these oppurtunities and smashed the ball into the back of the net! This was nice, but we didn't score again until they scored once in the first half, then scored three times in the second half! Dylan hogged the ball most of the game, and had trouble getting back in position once the ball was lost. Our defensive line looked good, except for a few mistakes resulting in the goals. Mid-field had a nice game, but when they dribbled through we seemed not interested in GETTING THE BALL. The half ended 1-1, but going into the second half, trouble abounded. ):

At half, coach Josh said, “Hey. This is a dirty team. We need to get going and get spririt in us.” and he gave all of us various pointers, which was REALLY helpful! We were told more about “going to the flag” which means a defenseive player of the mid-fielders plays the ball down to the corner flag, and then our wings get speed and attack the defense. It really works. We were just trying to maintain posetion amd potentially get a goal inside that net!

2nd Half

The second half was not noteworthy. They began to work us out of the ball, and we fought back, but both teams slowed down therefore giving them a few goals to begin the half. The rest was slow, and as a few players stated afterward, “It seemed to drag on to eternity!”. The rest I won’t write about, although later one of Dylan’s hogging sessions payed off when he did a give-n-go with a teammate, and we SCORED! The game ended:

Surf lost 2-6
