Pre-season Matches & More!

Many hot games in Dallas, might as well warm up!

Player of the friendly: It was a team effort, I can’t give this to any one person.

Goal scorer(s): N/A (No one scored)

Funny of the Game: Adam1 was playing right back, then at the same time Adam2 was playing left back. As you can expect, our defensive players were having a hard time!

What is going on?

This new season just beginning, we have to warm up, especially getting ready for the blazing temperatures out there. The average temperature for the Dallas Surf practice area is 104 Degrees Farenheit!! If that isn’t the craziest weather, I am stumped. Having practice cancelled is the default if the temps get above 105 up to 30 minutes before the designated practice start time.

Most of the uniforms have arrived, so many the team has been coming to the few uncancelled practices. A few are still on the way. Anyhow, lets get into playing.

Look for counter-attacks and overloads after winning the ball. We NEED to get more pressure to the other team, especially after one of their attacks or quick runs towards goal. -Coach Calum

Game 1 -August 3 (maybe)- 2023 was against the ‘09 girls Surf team. We got merely destroyed, and the end of the game was a disgrace. I played terribly, and all of us seemed, as coach said,” Dead.” It is true. We were exhausted from just one substitution and almost no water left in every jug. This was played at our regular practice fields, after a long practice in the heat of 104! It was very difficult, and I hope next one will be different.

Game 2 - August 17 (maybe)- 2023 was against ‘11 girls. We played fairly well, but as coach said, we don’t have that harmony of a well seasoned team. The weather played a huge roll in the slowness of our playing, but other than all that we would have done alright. In all, we won the match, and came away with a mostly satisfying friendly.

Game 3 - August 26 -2023 was against the Surf 2012 Boys. We started the game with all the regualr positions. We were looking pretty strong, but coach Calum said at half time,” We compete at our regular pace and ability for only 1/3 of the game. 20 MINUTES. Thats it. We are dead out there. We are soon going to have a fitness training where we run and work to get better so that we can compete for more than 1/3 of the game.” This ‘Fitness training’ came true two trainings after the friendly on the 29th. We ran 5 1/2 laps around the field to make a mile. Anyhow, we played for goals and we had some chances. Juan dribbled up and made a cross to Dylan who shot. He missed barely to the right. Then we made our way back after their counter-attack. This team was small, but they did not have ball handling in pressure down at all. Juan then made another sweet move and passed with a give-n-go to Landon. Then Juan dribbled up…and hit it into the left corner. He barely missed, but we got the ball back from a counter-attack, then we lost the ball on the left side and they made their way down to our defensive end. On defense, I was center-back along with Gavin, Jacob, and Ian. Ian won the ball, but then I had to come in because their right wing was really fast and ferocious. We got him under control, then many more back and forths happened. Later, we got an off-sides goal from Juan. They also made a goal, after completely stiff-arming me, then he passed off-sides, and they STILL COUNTED IT! The game ended with a 0-1 loss for us. This was pretty dissapointing, but we still have to try to improve our game before the season begins for the Classic League.

Thanks for reading this weeks update!
