“MATEO…FOR THE WINNNNNNN!” -Jacob

Funny of the game: The other team fouled 7 players on our team considerable awfully.

1st Half

The game was really close. It started with a confusing silence that moved all through the game onto the end of the game. No one was really amped up or anything, and so we played in almost complete silence. They had some really bug players, most of which were attackers. They had a strategy of smacking the ball up-field and taking the fast-break. At half, Asher and Asher’s dad reminded the defense of this. Amir and Juan had multiple chances, including one where the corner went into the goalie’s hands and Juan hit the ball a tad to high above the cross-bar. Amir had many SO CLOSE chances to the right and left of the goal. We hit the post twice, and had so many close chances! Soon after these, they made a break, I slipped on a sand pit, and they popped it in behind Ethan for the goal! NO! This was bad. We kept competing, but sadly we did not hit any more shots. The whistle was blown soon after, and we were determined to win the game in the second half.

Coach, at half, said, “We need to get more bodies up the pitch. Yeh? Since they are playing every single one of their players down for corners, we need to get up for more chances. Lets get some goals, and especially win those chances.” We were super excited and hopeful going into the next half.

2nd Half

The second half was so exciting. Later in, Noah got the ball from Ian on defense and passed it in. Coach congradulated him as Amir pulled back his leg for a shot. GOAL! We scored with one assist from Noah! This goal tied up the game and made it very pressurful. Keep in mind this was near the end of the half. They had two corner kicks soon after, that gladly did not do anything to the score. Then, out of the blue, Dylan made a cross, and AMIR PUT IT IN AGAIN! Wow! At this point the whole crowd was standing and cheering, “GO blue! First to the ball…Pressure…defense…MAINTAIN POSSESION!” We were getting excited as our last defender was dribbled past, and they had a shot…Asher made a beautiful block I can’t even explain, and punted it like nothing happened. It was beautiful! Then Mateo got to the tip of the ball and dribbled. He got past every mid-fielder and made it to the 18 yard box. The goal keeper then came out, and with all the pressure and crowd and all, Mateo put a ball past the keeper’s hands and into the precious net! Everyone was cheering, “Abuela”, because apparently that is his nick-name. Why…don’t ask me…

The whostle was blown, and we won the second game in the U90 tournament against Solar, our rival team that was especially rival this game, as they fouled too much
