5th Game Vs. Sporting United
It seems to be one dissapointment after another…but will it be this time?
Please take a few moments to flip through these great photos taken by Patrick, the author's grandfather, with his Z-6 Nikon camera. Thanks!
Player of the match: Josh, for the second time this season, he held his ground and played a solid game.
Goal Scorer(s): N/A
Funny of the game: The solar eclipse happened during our game!
This was going to be an interesting game because a partial solar eclipse, which basically means that the moon goes right over the sun from our persepective. The team, Sporting United, is a very large team that played mostly unfairly. I think they played mostly well, but we sort of matched their skill and that was our trouble during the game. Going into this game…to be honest we were pretty distracted because of the solar eclipse!
1st Half
The game began with a rough loss of the ball. They scored twice at the begginning and made a few nice moves to make themselves dangerous in the attacking third. Coach rightfully said, “ This is a winnable game. Go out and win your one vs. ones, win the overloads, win all your personal battles against this team.” As the game went on, they slowly came to have a few strategies: one was a nice cross from the outside right wing. Another being dribbling up to me, then passing in behind and playing the offside ball. To add on to this, the line refs seeming interestingly distracted, so they didn’t call any offsides on them. They scored twice in the first quarter, and, after a few mistakes, we got it and passed it up to Juan. Juan made a couple smooth looking moves, then PLOPPED IT IN! Or sadly, so we thought. It turns out that he hit the side post, and it went to the inside part of the goal, and sadly, the center back kicked it way out. The rest was a back and forth seemingly, “kickball”, with one or two disturbing fouls, and a few small events.
At half, coach said, “ This is a winnable game. We can win this. Boys, you need to be wuick on the ball, and be more physical. We didn’t come here to be soft on them. Shoulder someone, get stuck on someone. Be physical, yeah? We need to step up the attacking game! Alright, lets win this.” This was very true, and made a nice result in the second half:
2nd Half
The second half began with lots of pressure. Noah later chuckled at his efforts of being aggresive: making a guy fall over about 6 times, and he still did not get a foul called on him. They got a free kick from a foul, and they sort of wasted this by hitting it too far to the right of the goal (looking at our goal, that is). They scored later on, but sadly, we could not reply. Juan made a nice shot to almost go in for the second time! While thinking about this season, I decided I should make a personal statistic for Juan’s attempts, because he has so many chances…always with a good result. The rest of the game dragged on, with a small talk on the sideline breifly about homeschooling with Jacob and Landon…😉
Sadly, we could not pull out any points from this game, ending the final whistle with the score:
0-3, Surf LOST
