5th Game Vs. Roadrunners FC
Oiii! Hardest team in the league…AND ONLY TEN PLAYERS?!
Player of the match: Ian, for playing exceptional defense!
Funny of the game: We had to wear hot pink socks...and hot pink doesn't exactly go with white and blue...(=
1st Half
To clarify, there are two Roadrunner teams; an A team and a B team. Today we played the A team. This...was going to be tough. We went out onto the field with the mindset of, "We have to prove we're the best team in the league." At the moment, THEY are the best team in the league. If we beat them, we'd be ready to take on any other team.
The game was didn't flow as much as a regular soccer game usually does. It was very fragmented; many fouls and out-of-bounds! If a regular game is creamy peanut butter, then this game was definitely crunchy. For example, multiple times during corner kicks our defense was out of order, like jelly spread across too much bread. Alright…I seem to be getting hungry here. Anyways, #18 (as seen in a few pictures) seemed to have a grudge against me from the first kick off; he kept pushing and shoving me during out of bounds moments!! Good grief. The game seemed real close until a fast break was made, and our defense didn’t drop back enough. The midfield tried sprinting back to cover, but the bubble between the midfield and defense was what led to a first goal for the roadrunners. Multiple more attacks made by them on our midfield and defense yielded no prevail, but it did tire us quite a bit. Towards the end of the first half, they made a daunting attack on goal that made it into the left corner. The first half ended 0-2…we were down.
2nd Half
At halftime, coach Gavin (a fill-in coach) said, “I’ve noticed a small pocket between the defense and the offense that is either on the right or the left of the midfielders, depending on where the ball is. We need to communicate in the middle about that gap. One of the two mid-fielders need to watch and cover that space.”
We went out into the second half with a fresh breathe (of Texas FINALLY cooling down) and an attitude of, “Lets catch up and beat this team.”
The other team seemed fatigued, and we managed to get past their lines MANY MANY times but we had no one who shot. SNIFFFF
The Roadrunners scored twice more; two counterattacks from our plays. Our weak spot was the left defensive line: not one person individually, but they would randomly cross it there and take an easy shot on goal.
The game ended 0-4, but we won a moral victory; multiple players on their team got yellow cards.
