1st Half
The game was a nice refreshment. The temperature was about 96, so it was a lot better than recent games. We played fairly well, and pulled out a nice headstart with a super quick counter-attack off their defense. Coach said that their defense is fluttery, and that was spot on because almost everytime they got the ball, they lost it! We took it off them, then Jack passed back to josh, who got a give-n-go to him again. Dylan recieved it, and scored off the left side of the field! This goal was really nicely positioned, because it gave the Roadrunners a lot of pressure to score the rest of the game. They kept the ball for short periods of time, but they could never really could get it out. Don’t get me wrong…this team had some very skilled dribblers, but they just didn’t have the “UMPH” as Adam says, that you need to score. Their striker, like many others, had a few nice turns on me, but I could always close him down because he seemed afraid to dribble. We had many nice plays, and some that got our hearts going at a million beats a minute, but the first half dragged on in the heat after the first goal. Their striker made a few nices moves to take them in front of our goal, but Ethan made a nice save. He did this about three times with the striker, but we still had a 1-0 lead when the whistle was blown for halftime.
At half, coach said…after much distraction from a few players,” This team is going to come out hyped to win this ball game. We need to stay aggresive, and keep the pressure high on those counter-attacks. Play consistently, and KEEP TNE BALL!” We were nervous, and excited, to compete. If we were to win this, it would give a nice mindset going into the next week of (a) game(s).
2nd Half
The pressure is high as they kick off after a hearty whistle by the referee. The half begins. The starting and middle parts were very action filled and had much heart-racing activity, but I would be writing all day if I were to jot down all the details. Skipping to the last 4 minutes…here is an exciting dilema:
5 minutes left. The water brake has just ended, and all the players are jogging out to their best positions. The ball is thrown in off the left side by their defender. We lose the ball, they dribble down the field. All the pressure is on the defense as they dribble down. Ethan’s hands at ready for anything, the strikers hoping and helping, and the defense shaking. They shoot…THEY MISS…but Ethan has to get it out. He passes out to the right side, and Adam barely can’t get to it in time. They dribble down, and I block it. Adam makes a beautiful move against the defender, and kicks it down the field. Landon get sit, and THE WHISTLE IS BLOWN! The game ends, our first win of the season: 1-0!
