2nd Game vs. Saints
Ok! First REAL Game! Indoor is great!
Player of the match: Jack, for playing very great goalie and sacrificing his playing time for that. Also making a nice shot on goal...(and of course, making it!)
Goal scorer(s): Jack, Marcus
Funny of the game: The guy I (Simon) was defending got so mad that he literally slammed into my shin while the ref wasn't looking, but he fell down (:
1st Half
The game started with it looking really good on our end. Marcus got the ball and dribbled up the left side for a great looking shot on goal. He missed to the right far edge, but it was a great effort and I think they were intimidated very highly. That was our only mistake...letting them get scared about Marcus. Marcus, as you probably know, is our main goal scorer. From then on they always pressed him. Anyhow, Luke actually played his first game with us, and he did pretty good! He had some very sweet passes into Marcus for one assist...more on that later. He also had some nice blocks, one of which was on a big dude in the middle: he had enough nerve to just shoot from half way. Luke was right there and he blocked it, and I was the goalie at the time, so you can't understand how thankful I was for that save. I made a few saves but I got worried because they had the ball a lot more than we had it. By the way, these summaries are not going to be as long as the ones for the Spring Season because the indoor matches are only 20 minute halves compared to 30 minute halves. They dribbled up many times with pretty nice outcomes, because they were much more zealous than we were. I came out of the goal after 3 minutes. I felt like a steel wall because every time I got the ball, they hacked at me and smacked me, and it did nothing! A couple times Marcus dribbled up, but again, he had such a difficult time against the defenders, but he crossed it to the middle and Jack ALMOST had a goal, but it went too high. There is this thing in indoors, where the ball can't hit above a certain point on the side walls. The place we play at is really nice and I love the turf there. Anyways, they scored a few times with some nice crosses in the middle, passes that are so acute you can barely tell they are passes at all, and some sweet shots! Coach said," Treat this as a street match. You know; just sort of do things that you would never do in a game, like try a rainbow! Try a bicycle kick. Try anything. Because if you don't do it here are other places, you will never do it in a game!" What was really funny is that Theo looked very mischevious when he said," Bicycle kick!"...uh oh! The first quarter was fun, and we got some good running in which is one of the best parts of sports.
At half time, coach said," Hey guys, enjoy the ball. Relax, and enjoy the game, enjoy the ball. Get those fun little skill moves out there. If you mess up, who cares, and if you do it right, great! Just enjoy the ball!"
2nd Half
The second half started very nicely, but towards the middle we slowed down again. Theo dribbled up, but lost the ball and Asher got the ball and passed it up. Everybody rushed towards it, and Jack was quick and got a shot off for OUR GOAL! He also played nice goalie after that, and even took my spot for playing keeper towards the end of the game! Marcus made a few nice passes and got a give-n-go from Ian, then he passed off the wall, and passed back to Ian. He then did another give-n-go with Ian, and got a nice dribbled up and shot, but barely missed again! They got it, but while this happened, this #43 guy that I was defending ran up and tried to kick me so hard in the shin that he himself fell over!! I just tripped a little, but then I looked for the foul because this was an obvious foul, but the refereee was of course being good, and watching the ball on the other side of the field. #43 was really angry at me, and he knew if he tried to face me, he would just get knocked over, so I guess he just tried to get his anger out by full on smacking me. Marcus recovered the ball, and I came and asked for it, but he drew the foul right there. I took it, but it was a terrible kick, and they got it and dribbled up and eventually off that same drive, they scored. They scored a few more times, most of which I won't mention, but Marcus was looking at playing a nice cross into goal when instead he shot and surprised all the defenders on the left side and SCORED! Great job by Marcus after trying with sincere effort to score, got the fruits of his labor. The game ended:
