Player of the Match: Juan, for playing a position he doesn’t play usually and playing it well
Goal scorer(s): N/A
Funny of the game: When I told Ian I was going to write my summary, he said," No Simon. No, no, no. Just tell them you were on break!"
The Renegades are a really skilled team. They had a few really large players, and some really small players. We knew right from the start that this was going to be a rough game, but we were going to play our hardest.
1st Half
The game began with a nice give-n-go between Ian and Dylan. Dylan dribbled up, and sadly lost the ball. The Renegades played pretty fast with the ball, and you could tell they had a team that had played together for a while. We hit their weak spots when Dylan had the ball, because they were sort of afraid of him. Ian played really well, but their defense made a nice give and go with the wing to take them quickly in front of our goal. He shot, but I blocked it with a close call, then I gave it to Ian and he got it to Josh as center-middle. Juan played center-back the whole game because our main other center-back, Gavin, was not there. Juan does not play this position ever, and for never playing it, you have to give him tons of credit for playing very hard even though it wasn’t his regualar position. They scored again later in the first half, giving us a sad disadvantage to goals. Then, at the very end…right before a drawn out event, they scored one more time. Sadly, the lightning was about 8 miles from the field and they have to shut down the fields for 30 minutes or until told otherwise as a general rule in the city we were playing in. The lightning was RIGHT inside the radius of allowance to stop. We had to stop, but the rain (or drizzle) didn’t go on for long, and we kept playing after about 18 minutes of staying in our cars. The minute left in this half was added to the 2nd half by the officials. The score was 0-3 at halftime, and it was very rough and more of it was coming.
At halftime…we were in our cars, so the halftime went somthing like this,” Hey…lets go guys…(this is a collage of what many people were saying)…com’on…now (Ian)Simon…did you say what I told you to say…” Dylan’s dad said,” Guys, keep the pressure high and play well.”
2nd Half
The minute added felt like hours. It was hotter because the sun had just come out of the clouds. The game was not very good afterwards. The play was slow, and their play was fast. We got it out, and they got it back in. They shot, we didn’t get to it fast enough. They scored twice very quickly, then we almost got a goal. Hoping that the lightning would start up again, the game went on. They had more fun than they had had probably in a long time, bossing the ball around. The game kept on like this, with a few small breakouts with Juan with center-back to Josh. Josh passed to Dylan, but he cound’t get the ball past the last man. After their 2 goals at the start of this Half, they scored 2 times again! The game ended a sad 0-7 Loss which was not alright.
Coach said,” We did not play very well, but we had a few good moments. Thank you everyone for coming out here to play.” (this was a much abbreviated version of what he said.)
