3rd Game vs. DFW Tejanos
Another Game FINALLY!
Player of the match: Theo, for keeping our team ahead with amazing goal saves, and more!
Goal scorers: Theo, Theo, Jad, Landon, Conor, Asher
Funny of the game: the only two times you can score buzzer beaters, we scored them!
As a quick reference before the game, "Tejanos" means "Texans" in Spanish.
1st Half
We had a big advantage in this game because they were a player short, with obviously no subs! I was kind of sad because I like competition that can keep up with your speed of play. Fortunately for me, maybe not so fortunately for others, the team was pretty aggressive. At kickoff, our team made a few nice passes, but then we lost the ball on the attacking third. Their striker, #3, was really quick with the ball...but all the mid-fielders were clunky and not fast at all. For indoor, the halves are 20 minutes, so the games are 20 minutes shorter. Theo kept looking for the shot, and when he is looking for a shot you know you can get one off. Our team passed the ball really well. I feel like we have definitely gotten better since the last time we played a game together. Then Landon dribbled up, and shot. It was sadly a little too high, but Theo got the rebound, shot...AND scored, making us ahead 1-0! It was a very nice follow-up shot. Theo was really taking action today, and again he dribbled up the right side, passed it to the middle for Juan, and Juan lost in a 1v1 against their best defender (who was actually really good). Juan won it back though, and passed it to Landon. Landon dribbled around and did a give-n-go with Mateo. They passed it around a few times with the defender right there, but finally Landon crossed it in, but everyone missed it and we had to retreat because they got the ball. Their wingers got it to the middle, where this tiny little striker dribbled through about 4 of us, but I finally stopped it. The game went on just about liike this, until Jad made another big break off: He just dribbled right up the right side with the ball, after winning it against that pesky little #3 striker. It looked as if he were just going to go straight to the goal because the way he dribbles you can never tell when he is going to shoot which I would say is an amazing trait. Once he was all the way up, right in front of the goal, he smacked it in from about 7 feet to lead Surf/Evo, 3-0. As coach says," Lets get out there, and play some street football!" We were going to have FUN at this point. At kickoff, Landon passed it back to Mateo who crossed a little curve pass that was going between two defenders to Theo who dribbled up but lost the ball off a big touch. Juan got the rebound and won it, then he shot...but it BARELY went over the goal and it missed. Theo and Landon both were going for everyone, and they both played very solid games. Theo got the rebound and then it got bobbled around a bunch...all of which I won't explain. Anyhow, in the following minutes we had a few moments where we thought they were going to score. They did at the end of the half, by just smacking it as hard as they could and it just happened to go in. This team could not catch up to us in this second half.
Sadly, coach Calum was not here today. But, we had a very long time soccer dad coach us, Jad's father. Anyways, he told us to," Enjoy the ball, and also be consistent and precise in passing the ball. Guys, this team is not as skilled as we are, so lets go out there and be aggressive, shoot, and pass consistently." We were excited for an ever more fun 2nd half!
2nd Half
It started with them passing back, we played very nice pressure, and when the defense passed it to the wing, but Mateo stopped it in front of him and got it to the middle. The whole quarter felt really short, so I don't have very much to say accept that it was very fun! Anyways, Conor came back in after about a minute for I believe...Landon. Then he got a loose ball and immediately he got to is and popped it into the back of the goal!!! GOAL! It was exciting, and at this point I was jumping because I had so much energy. It was really fun. They had a few nice moves and dribbled around, passed, I think trying to wear us out. It definitely was a smart strategy, but we had so much energy they could not have even matched against us. They then got the ball to the goal, and Theo made a beautiful save by diving and knocking the ball out of the guy that was shooting's feet. They kept us on our toes for a few more plays, but finally I just slammed my-self into the player that had the ball, I kind of feel like it should be a foul...but let not talk about that (:. Then I got the ball and dribbled it out of trouble, and, realizing how much space was around then, I took that space and evantually crossed it to the left side to Mateo. I feel like Mateo got played the ball a lot during this game, but then again...he was playing a position that gets the ball a lot. He played to the left side, but the Tejanos had recovered by then, so they got it, and they passed it up really quickly. I guess it serves me right for them getting past almost everyone, because I think I fouled them, but they got it through all of us, and the last man knocked me down. Then, once everyone was recovering on my team, they shot with about a 2 degree angle of the goal on the right side if you look at it from our perspective. Theo was still playing back-up goalie, and the ball bounced off of him into the goal...whaaaaaa! I had hoped we would get a clean slate, because that gets us many more points. But, never the less, they scored on us. At this point you may be wondering," Why do different people keep getting put in goalie?" Well, the answer is that our main goal keeper, Asher, injured his thumb and ultimately his hand...making it almost impossible to comfortably play goalie. It is too bad, but he hopefully will be back soon, and then we will be back to usual. We NEED you back Asher! The rest of the game was pretty one sided, and nothing happened...of course we still had a ton of fun though. The excitement of this half happened when we had 20 seconds left, and many people on their side kept shooting. Conor got another shot off to start this little shooting spurt, then Mateo, then Landon, but at 2 seconds left on the clock for the game, Asher...yes...our goal keeper, shot to the left top hand corner and made it as the buzzer sounded!! It was really fun, and I think he deserved it after saving so many goals for us so many times!
